Red Sox Going to 2004 World Series

Written by Michael, Age 11 of Barnstable, Massachusetts

The Boston Red Sox are going to the World Series for the first time in my lifetime! They were behind the New York Yankees by 3 games, when they made history and won 4 straight games to clench the American League Pennant. If the Red Sox win the Major League Baseball World Series it will be the first time since 1918.

Some of the reasons the Red Sox have made it to the World Series are because of teamwork and key players like Curt Schilling, Johnny Damon, Tim Wakefield, Kevin Millar, Mark Bellhorn, Manny Ramirez, Pokey Reese, Keith Foulke, Pedro Martinez, Derek Lowe, Bronson Arroyo, Trot Nixon, Bill Mueller, Tim Wakefield, Orlando Cabrera, Doug Mientkiewicz, Jason Varitek, and last but definitely not least, David Ortiz, our star DH and MVP of the post season; the coaches and managers; and all the Red Sox's dedicated fans (like me) who Believe!   Everyone I know is tired from watching all of the late night / early morning games!

The World Series starts on Saturday October 23 against the St. Louis Cardinals (National League Champions), at our own Fenway Park. This series will be a close one because the Cardinals have really good offensive players like Albert Pujols and Jim Edmonds. These two teams met each other in the 1967 World Series, but this time let's hope for a different ending...
